Carpe Diem

Skeleton Mosaic

Whilst we’re on the subject of mosaics I thought I’d share this one with you.  (Last mosaic for a while, I promise.)  I saw it in the Naples museum years ago, and if skeletons can be deemed “cute” this one definitely is in the runing for the title.

Whilst a skeleton seems a strange subject for decorating your home, this was probably a daily reminder to “seize the day”.  Life expectancy in Roman times was only about thirty five years, so the message was clear: life is short so make every moment count.

With that in mind, I’m off to do some painting.
