Well here’s the first stage of the woodpigeon painting…. minus the pigeons. Told you it was abstract! At this stage I just wanted to establish the main colour palette and to create an average tone across the whole surface. It’s easier to judge the colours against a medium background than on a white surface. I wanted a sense of sunlight, shadows and blossom glimpsed through branches.
The next stage will be to block in the pigeons and add some stronger dark tones by way of branches. I’ll post a Step 2 image tomorrow.
