The last sighting of Spike was a semi-successful flight in to a nearby bush. Not pretty, but effective, and more importantly he was out of immediate sight of predators. Next morning there was good news – Spike had beaten the cats and survived the first night out of the nest.
Since then there have been no sightings and we await the latest update from the neighbours whose chimney was Spike’s first home. No doubt they’ll have been glad to see the hoopoe family fledge – hoopoes have the smelliest nests of any birds!
