Treasuring the Past (Update)

In one of my recent posts “Treasuring the Past” I wrote of my concern that ancient Egyptian art treasures were under threat due to the continuing unrest in Egypt. With rumour and speculation mixed with too few facts it is difficult to know what to believe.

Today I was heartened to read Margaret Maitland’s blog post regarding the latest situation. Margaret is a PhD student from Oxford who took part in the second of our research trips. Her account includes an update from Dr Salima Ikram of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Undoubtedly there are people in Egypt who seek to exploit the present situation for their own personal gain. Thankfully Margaret reminds us of the many more whose actions stem from pride in their heritage.
