Are you making the most of art materials websites? I include two groups in this catergory: manufacturers (Winsor & Newton, Liquitex, Sennelier, et al) and online suppliers (Jackson’s Art Supplies, Ken Bromley Art Supplies etc).
It’s only during the past year or two that I’ve been aware of how much useful information is out there. Yes, I order products online and I’ve checked manufacturers sites for product information such as range of paint colours or brush types, but there’s so much more on the websites.
Did you know that many manufacturers have their own blogs and communities where you can question or chat to other art lovers, watch videos of product demonstrations, enter competitions, discover the latest product innovations and even take a factory tour. You can view featured artists’ work (my watercolours are on the Winsor & Newton site) to gain inspiration too.
You can even request tips and techniques demos. I asked the lovely people at Liquitex for a video showing the differences between opaque, transparent and translucent acrylics as I thought it would be useful for my Summer School students to see the difference. Hey presto, there’s now a video on the Liquitex Facebook site http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/liquitex?sk=app_57675755167.
So what are you waiting for? Get surfing – your paintings have everything to gain.
